The Osgood Lions Club was founded on June 10, 1965, and is one of more than 44,600 clubs with over 1.3 million members in over 200 countries. The Osgood Lions awarded their first $500 Osgood Lions Club Scholarship in 2001 and each year thereafter.

The purpose of Lions Clubs is to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world; to promote the principles of good government and good citizenship; to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of the community; to unite the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good friendship, and mutual understanding; to provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest provided that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members; and to encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward; and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works, and private endeavors.

Philanthropic activities by the Osgood Lions Club during 2009 and most other years include donating over $15,000 to worthy causes such as: cancer research; eye glasses and exams for the needy; Camp Woodsmoke for the handicapped; Ripley County Soccer Club; Osgood Public Library; the Giving Tree; JCD Youth Baseball, Scholarship Foundation, National Junior Honor Society, and After Prom; Ripley Co. 4-H, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Park Board, and Jr. Leaders; Newspapers in Education; Seeing Eye Dogs; and the Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry. Funds are raised through sales from the Lions Club food trailer and tractor pulls.

"We Serve" is the official motto, and Osgood Lions Club members do serve their local community: they collect donations in a May Candy Day for Cancer, put up Christmas lights for Osgood, ring bells for the Salvation Army, and sponsor free vision screenings at the Versailles Pumpkin Show and area schools.
