Gilmore and Golda Reynolds were life-long residents of Ripley County. They were known as good, solid, hard-working people. Gilmore was a successful businessman who began in 1922 as a partner in the Humphrey and Reynolds Chevrolet Agency. Golda earned a life teaching license from Hanover College and married Gilmore in 1928; she taught for almost 10 years. After the car business, Gilmore started a candy and tobacco business which led to a popcorn business. From 1946 to 1964, he operated the Reynolds Gas Company; his wife Golda worked closely with him in his businesses and served as company bookkeeper.

Together, they skillfully invested and built a multi-million dollar personal estate. In 1990 after Gilmore's death, Golda created and oversaw the Gilmore & Golda Reynolds Foundation. Upon Golda's death in 1998 at the age 98, she left the majority of their estate to the Gilmore & Golda Reynolds Foundation to benefit the community they loved-Center Township and the Town of Osgood.
